TITLE:  Instructional Technologist (ADM2993)

APPLICATION

Hutchinson Community College is seeking a qualified applicant looking for the challenge of growing in an online education department as an Instructional Technologist. This full time 12-month position collaborates closely with faculty, staff, and administration. This position plays a critical role in communicating with online course developers, and assisting with the design and implementation of technology to deliver (and maintain) ADA compliant course content (including online, hybrid, web supported, and blended courses).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities entail coordinating learning management systems with other technologies, and collaborating with faculty and online course developers in ongoing assessment of the effectiveness of teaching methods. Examples of the work performed by this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential functions:

  • Assist team members in configuring, managing, and maintaining the LMS and other instructional technologies, including maintaining courses, users, accounts, and permissions. 
  • Collaborate with team members to provide information and training for online course developers, faculty, staff, and students, relating to the LMS and instructional and professional development technology.
  • Conduct training related to the LMS, and other technologies.
  • Provide support for maintaining and troubleshooting technology.
  • Support faculty, online course developers, and students relating to instructional technology.
  • Assist in the ongoing process of maintaining and organizing, for ongoing and future use, curricular and co-curricular online and digital content.
  • Work closely with the online course developers, and faculty to assist them in best usage of the Learning Management System (LMS) and other educational technologies in designing courses and preparing course content.
  • Discover, develop, and implement ways in which technology and training can be applied to support and enhance online, hybrid, web supported, and blended online education teaching, including onsite.
  • Report to the Director of Online Education.
  • Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully perform the responsibilities of the position.
  • Comply with HutchCC policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Serve actively on campus committees.

Secondary –

  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Online Education.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, education, or related field is preferred, with two years of experience working in support of technical or educational environments, or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

  • Strong organizational skills.
  • The ability and willingness to provide excellent customer service within a servant leadership model.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of online course development standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge of ADA compliance for online instruction.
  • Knowledge in the use of a Learning Management System(s), Canvas preferred.
  • Knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office applications, including: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles.
  • Training, mentoring, or teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of best practices in online and face to face teaching.
  • Physical requirements include excellent written, verbal and listening communication skills. The ability to understand words and respond effectively and appropriately. Visual acuity to view a computer terminal. Light/indoor work environment.
  • Mental requirements include the ability to learn and comprehend basic instructions about the position.

    SALARY and STATUS:

    The salary is commensurate with qualifications as determined by the HutchCC administration.  This full-time administrative staff position is 12 month annual, benefit eligible, and exempt.
