TITLE:  Reading/Writing Integration Assistant (STF3042)

APPLICATION

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Functions:

  • Assist with the implementation of strategies for foundational skills aligned with coursework in Humanities courses.
  • Develop and present workshops on placement tests, study skills, and other topics as needed.
  • Provide Supplemental Instruction for Humanities classes.
  • Provide tutor training for Humanities developmental education classes.
  • Compile developmental program statistics.
  • Maintain student records and student portfolios in the developmental program.
  • Substitute for Humanities developmental instructor when the instructor is absent.
  • Coordinate and monitor computer lab activities, including maintaining supplies and inventory.
  • Maintain records and files as requested by the department chairperson and/or Vice President of Academic Affairs.
  • Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully complete the responsibilities of the position.
  • Comply with HCC policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Serve actively on campus committees.

Secondary –

  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Department Chairperson or the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Baccalaureate degree in English, developmental education, education, or a related field required.
  • Proficient English skills to work with developmental English students required.
  • Basic computer literacy required.
  • Ability to maintain confidentially in a student-centered environment
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff and administrators required.
  • Ability to collect data and provide statistical analysis using both qualitative and quantitative measures.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, high-level organizational skills, and ability to produce reports/documentation
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse ethnic, racial, socioeconomic, gender and disabilities populations
  • Physical requirements include manual dexterity to operate keyboard and other equipment; may need to lift up to 25-30 pounds when retrieving supplies from the storage area; excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills are essential; The ability to understand words and respond effectively and appropriately; Visual acuity to view a computer terminal; Light/Indoor work environment-

SALARY and STATUS:

This is a hourly position with pay commensurate with qualifications, credentials, background, and experience.  This full-time support staff position is 9-months annual, benefit eligible, and nonexempt.
