February is Black History Month. The Hutchinson chapter of the NAACP, and Hutchinson Community College-Social Science Department invites all U.S.D. 308 elementary students to share in this celebration.

Select an African-American who made important contributions which have benefited people by making the world a better place. Select someone from one of the these categories:
athletics…..visual arts….performing arts, etc.
Just fill in the attached entry form and return it to your teacher.
Grades 1, 2, 3:
Prepare a poster no less than 10”X12” and no larger than 22”X 28”
Draw, color, or paint a picture of the individual you selected showing what he/she did that was good and helped people.
Be sure to put the person’s name on the poster
Be sure your name is on the back of your poster.
Tell us in 3 minutes or less why you selected this person and what was so great about his/her accomplishments.
Grades 4, 5, 6:
Prepare a display (poster, exhibit, demonstration) about the individual you selected. Include the name of the person selected in your display
Prepare a presentation, 3 minutes or less, telling us about the individual you selected, why you selected that person, what that person did and why it was important.
Bring your display or poster to theShears Technology Center/Theaterat Hutchinson Community College, 1300 North Plum at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2012. Set up your display and be seated. Bring your friends, parents, and neighbors with you.
When your name is called, step forward and “Tell Us About” your poster or display.
