TITLE:  Computer Support Specialist Instructor (FAC2922)

APPLICATION

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential -

  • Teach assigned computer courses including server operating systems, networking, software applications and related courses. Teaching assignments may include evening courses or off-campus and via alternative delivery systems such as online.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, faculty and other HutchCC stakeholders.
  • Assess student learning and application of course objectives and competencies.
  • Design, develop, and maintain course curriculum, materials, assessments, and evaluations according to HCC and state standards, and in response to needs and trends.
  • Work collaboratively on Computer Support Specialist (CSS) and Computer Science (CS) program activities, planning and development.
  • Recruit students and market for computer classes/programs.
  • Participate in program advisory committees with area businesses.
  • Maintain records and files as requested by the department.
  • Serve actively in department activities and on campus committees.
  • Arrive for work on time, attend work regularly, and successfully complete the responsibilities of the position.
  • Comply with HutchCC policies, procedures and practices.

Secondary Functions-

  • Advise prospective and current students in proper curricula.
  • Pursue professional development opportunities, as needed.
  • Support and participate in student clubs and organizations.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned  by the department chairperson and the vice president of academic affairs, and as specified in the local Master Agreement.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Work experience in Computer Support, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred. 
  • Knowledge and experience with the PC platform, server operating systems, networking and MicroSoft Office.
  • Ability and willingness to teach via alternative delivery systems including online and/or other distance education modes.
  • Ability and willingness to stay current with industry standards and technology.
  • Excellent organizational skills and willingness to collaborate.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in a student centered environment.
  • Physical requirements may include but are not limited to having the ability to lift, stand, bend, stoop, reach. climb, push, pull and carry; the ability to understand words and respond effectively and appropriately. Visual acuity to view a computer terminal; use appropriate judgment and to apply tact and courtesy in difficult situations; Light/Indoor work environment.
  • Mental requirements include the ability to learn and comprehend basic instructions about the position.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
  • Evidence of effective teaching experience at the collegiate level.
  • Knowledge and experience with other hardware, networking, networking, cybersecurity or third party certifications (such as CompTIA A+/NET+, Cisco CCNA/CCNP, or CNSS 4011).

SALARY and STATUS:
